What happened in the Salty Community?

Some of the world’s best freesurfers headed to Zarautz on the Spanish side of the Basque coast at the beginning of the month for the William Aliotti’s Twin Fin Invitational, now in its third year. The athletes, including our very own Brendon Gibbens, Ian Fontaine and Gatien Delahaye, gathered for a week of of twin-fin surfing judged only by fellow surfers who rate performance based on creativity and style.

Congratulations to Italian surfer Chiara Cuppone for becoming vice-European Champion in the shortboard U18 category at the European Junior Championships held in Bundoran, Ireland.

Jarrod Snow got his SUP DW foil season started right near our office in France on the Downwind Foil World Tour.
Our Australian athlete first headed to “Les Ailes de Saint-Tropez” event, before going to Brittany for the second leg at the Presqu’ile de Crozon Foil Festival. Jarrod managed a top 10 ranking in all four races – two in each location – including a third-place finish in Race 2 in Crozon. Yann Quilfen also participated the races in Brittany, which were essentially happening in his backyard.
The tour heads to Perth, Australia in a few weeks for the next two stops. Stay tuned!

The Waves That Shape Us: A Love Letter to a Puerto Rican Slab

“This wave shaped me. It shaped the surfers who came before me, and now it’s shaping a new generation of Puerto Rican chargers. This is my love letter to it, told through a very special swell of 3 straight days of pumping surf.
I first paddled out at this slab when I was 15 and it’s been quite a battle since. Lots of lessons. Lots of wipeouts. This wave has taught me so much about surfing, respect, and more about myself than I care to know. On this swell, I got to watch the guys who inspired me and the young crew coming up, surf it side by side, and I knew I wanted to do something special with the footage and photos.”
