MANERA AND DANE REYNOLDS ARE FOCUSED ON SUPPORTING SURF SHOPS.

Partnering with pro surfer and surf shop owner Dane Reynolds, Manera is doubling down on our mission to preserve the core surf retail community. As we move into 2025, our focus remains on fostering organic growth, deepening retail partnerships, and promoting sustainability. In an interview with Building the Revolution, Manera’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Austin Benke, discusses why the brand prioritizes surf shops, its plans for the future, and how it aims to uphold its values in an evolving industry.

Last summer, Juliette Lacome faced a major ordeal: a surgery to remove a bone tumor, followed by a six months recovery. In her latest edit, the French surfer lets us in on this journey as well as the process of returning to surfing and to the ocean, her happy place.

I’ve learned a lot about myself, about life too. I can handle things a little bit more after going through this. At the end of the day, I’m just happy to be back in the water doing what I love.

Lasers, smoke machine, wave pool, and sick surfing.

Opened last year, the “O2 Surftown Muc” wave pool in Munich is already attracting pro surfers, such as our very own Brendon Gibbens. He, along with Chippa Wilson and William Aliotti, took to the water at night and released the edit “BLITZ!” about their nightly adventure.

I thought it was cool to align with MANERA as a small family-owned business that supports surf shops, which I think are the core of each surf community. As a shop owner, it just made sense for me, and their dedication to that I feel is really important in surfing right now.” – Dane Reynolds

Maxime Chabloz is the 2024 Kite Freestyle World Champion!

I’m world champion, that’s all I can think of right now. It’s something I’ve been dreaming about since I discovered kiting. I think I was seven years old, and I wanted to be the best kiter in the world. It was my biggest dream in life, and it finally happened. It’s been such a journey. But the longer the journey, the sweeter the victory.

Charles Brodel made history by being the first rider on a hydrofoil to compete in the Red Bull King of the Air 2024!

Charles was undoubtedly the talk of the town as he pushed the boundaries of Big Air kiteboarding, delivered massive tricks in epic conditions, and took on the runner-up of the event in round 3.

Justine Dupont participated in the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational for the second time, held in Waimea Bay on December 22, charging massive waves and, at times, dealing with equally massive wipeouts. Justine was amongst the 10 waterwomen invited to this mythical big wave event.

I’m happy that I went for it,” she said. “It was my goal to go on a big one. I couldn’t make the drop; I’m so bummed. I’ve never really wiped out on a big one paddling — but I did it during The Eddie Aikau. Next one I want to make it. It’s amazing to be part of this event.” – JD

Fun First

Coming from an authentic surf family, Ian Fontaine has however managed to develop his own surfing style. His family instilled in him a love for the ocean and a passion for competition from a young age; both have never wavered. His brothers were his first coaches and without them, he would have likely ended up playing football.

Ian Fontaine continues to explore the coasts of his dear Brittany in the search of some wild spots and fun waves to tackle. And although the videos are in French, the language of surf is fairly universal!

MANERA in the PNW: The All Spruced Up Premier

@nehalemsurfworks

Manera was proud to be apart of “All Spruced Up”, a film focused on highlighting a group of dedicated female surfers in the Pacific Northwest region. The PNW is known for beautiful scenery and empty waves, but that comes with the cost of harsh terrain and challenging wave conditions practically year round. These for women showcase what it means to be dedicated surfers on the Oregon coast. Manera worked with a new retail partner Nehalem Surf Shop to bring the local surf community together for a very special evening!

Building the Revolution X MANERA

Building the Revolution, an “International Community of Surf Shop Supporters”, came together with MANERA’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Austin Benke, to talk all things wetsuits and supporting local shops. Watch the podcast below to learn more!

To protect and maintain this friendly ecosystem, Manera has stayed true to the local shop model for our sales approach. Selling direct or going through corporate outlets would eliminate part of what the brand cherishes. The knowledge of true practitioners is invaluable, and that is why each MANERA product is only sold through a specialty shop or website. That way, everybody can get the best expertise and advice from someone who is in the water every day.” – Building the Revolution

Why Don’t We Sell Our Products on MANERA.COM?

Why don’t we sell our products on manera.com?

Local shops are the keystone of our sports.
Tight-knit communities frequently blossom and prosper around them: local events, comps, test days, local rippers first sponsor, happy and well-advised customers…

Picture the tropical smell of wax, endless rows of gleaming boards, hangers overflowing with new wetsuits, these are welcome sensations upon entering a shop and chatting with the hipster salesman about the newest gear available.
It is all an experience, not solely a transaction. Don’t you want kids in 20 years’ time to walk in and experience these shops the way we all did?

Our sports are fragile ecosystems, and skipping over local shops in the name of profit and margin is a short-term game. This is why we don’t sell direct, and 100% of our products are sold through retailers.

More than a sales strategy, it is a commitment to our culture.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHOP.
